Well, I have found the perfect meme, Vintage Thingie Thursday at Suzanne's blog, Coloradolady.
Please take a minute or two, or in my case, 2 or 3 hours to click on over to Suzanne's wonderful blog and check out all the other vintage items.
You see I purchased what I would truly call a vintage thingie! I have no idea what it's purpose in life might be...but I know I like it, a lot. That is why I paid 50cents for it!! I'm thinking maybe it came from a desk set and that it originally was designed to hold papers?? What I do know is that it is a heavy little piece of wrought iron. It was a little rusted and certainly dusty when I found it on a shelf at a local thrift store. Never fear, a good cleaning with a damp cloth and a quick couple of squirts of black spray paint took care of that problem.
I have re-purposed it to hold all of these, which I bought for 25 cents each at a flea market...
Boy, I'm ready to get a hot pot off the stove and out of the oven now!!
So, do tell, what is it??
Thanks ever so kindly~
Ann

Oh I like what you did with it. Great idea. My mother and grandmother used to make those...You got a great deal for 25 cents a piece. Beautiful shape also.
Your vintage "thingie" is very nice! It would be interesting to find out what it was originally used for!
I love those potholders!! The color, the thickness, oh my heart be still! Those are awesome. Can't believe you paid so little, good find!
If you find yourself Woo Hoo!ing over this great find, stop by and share :)
I think your vintage "thingie" might be a hearth toaster; the slices of bread are placed in the holder and placed near a fire, on the hearth, for toasting. I could be wrong; it might just be a letter holder, but it looks kind of like an old fashioned toaster. Sometimes they had a handle on them as well.
Hi Ann!
You sweetly left me a comment on my Rednesday post and I thought I'd come over and say hello! :)
Admiring your vintage thingie (loving the topic name! I'll have to play too) - could it be for toast??? And I adore vintage potholders, so cute and at home in your um, thingie! :)
Sally
It could be used for napkins, but doubt that was the original use of it.
I don't know what it was, but I like what it is now! You've got a great collection of those old potholders, and they look amazing in that vintage thingie!
Happy VTT!
Carol
I don't know what the metal thingie is. You got a good deal on those potholders. Just think of all the time and thread it took to make them!
First off, welcome to VTT~ and what a great first post...I have no idea what that is, I was going to guess a napkin holder, but I love, LOVE it as a potholder thingie!!! Very cute indeed. Have a great VTT!
I'm pretty sure it was a potholder holder. LOL
I sure love what you did with this and those potholders are fantastic! You have such great kitchen collections! I love to see what you share. So glad I have gotten to know your blog!
I don't know what it was used for but I think you found a lovely use for it. Your potholders sure look good in it and yep you are well-prepared for holding pots :)
What a cool way to use the wrought iron piece. The potholders look very nice displayed this way.

Great idea to hold those wonderful pot holders!
Hi and welcome to VTT... and I think I know for sure what it was made for. It was made for a lovely lady to find and store amazing vintage potholders in. :). Beautiful potholders I might add. If I were to find potholders like that for 25 cents, I don't know if I would happy dance or faint...*sighs..they're just beautiful and look so pretty in the vintage thingy..
What an awesome piece and an awesome idea for it!! Could it be a napkin holder??
*hugs*deb
It is what it is NOW..., a holder of potholders. I love it.
What a deal on the cute assortment of hotpads and holders.
Love this post...
Whatever it might be it is beautiful love the detail on it and the potholders look great in it.
Blessings, Vicky
Welcome to VTT! I have no clue as to what that thing is either. I'm too busy with the smelling salts trying to revive myself when I saw all of the beautiful potholders! I would have given a $1 apiece just to have those luscious things! Lucky you!
I'm guessing it was a toaster - - - but I thought of napkin holder too.
Now I do believe that everything has it's purpose. Great find! Happy weekend!

Well I need a stand like that one. I have several pot holders my grandmother made. You have displayed them so lovely.
I also think its a toaster and a very pretty one too...I love the high footed stand. Your pot holders are adorable!
I just commented but not sure if it went through so I'm commenting again! The clock in my master bedroom is from one of my sponsors. Stacy@Craftify It makes custom clocks. Check her out!
very fun finds and even better prices! Thanks for stopping by my page today! -diane
Now you have the perfect excuse to "hoard" those Vintage Thingies! I know the feeling, sometimes OTHER people think it's just too much, but I know better. hehehe Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my Vintage Icebox. Come back and visit again sometime, I love having visitors.
OK, so I'm not down with the toaster idea. To me the foot/pedestal seems to ornate for one of those... but like everyone else I think your vintage thingy is way cool. xoxo
Hi, Ann,
Well, I used to have something similar to it, but it wasn't old. I guess maybe it would be now, cause it was when I first got married.
Mine was a wash cloth holder. You role up the washcloths and stick them in there. It held about three, and I used it used for "show". Hope this helps. (I like your idea though)
