Kitchen Reveal

Brace yourselves, as there are lots of pictures.

Our new kitchen isn't for everyone, I know.  BUT for us it is perfect.

It is warm.

It is cozy.

It showcases some of my collections(I held back on putting a lot out.)

AND last but not least hubby was able to show me some of his hidden talents like painting
and working with power tools.  I love being married to a soldier but I have found being
married to a man that knows how to use power tools is quite nice too!

Lets begin the tour and I'm going to let the pictures do the talking(mostly!)
You can click on any picture to enlarge.

Before

Nice kitchen but not really what I wanted.  Definitely needed to replace the counter tops.

After

We added:
glass doors to the cabinet above the sink
painted the walls a lovely shade of green
added bead boarding to the walls in the dine-in-eating area
new granite counter tops, uba tuba

Also, found at Goodwill a larger table and chairs and refinished and painted it all black

We love our new kitchen!!

Our washing machine broke this weekend.
Our dryer has been trying to go on to its great reward for a year or so.
We purchased a new set yesterday.  Thursday is the delivery day.
Between now and Thursday I hope to have the laundry room painted.
Soon I'll be showing everyone the before and after in that room.

For now, we rest...

remnants of all his hard work is still visible on Oliver's face!!

Kitchen Reno Update

Well folks, the update is almost complete in our kitchen.  Can't quite show y'all the room just yet.  Gotta get this mess cleaned up first....

Yep, your lookin' at a gallon of spilled paint.

This is how it went down.

Story told by Oliver the Shih Tzu.

Mommy left to run errands this morning.  At first, I made my usual rounds that I make when mommy leaves me for the morning.  You know, gotta check all the trash cans throughout the house.  You see, I'm starving and I'm always on the hunt for tiny scraps of food or the occasional sanitary napkin.  Once I finished tipping 6 trash cans I was exhausted and in need of a nap.  As I walking through the construction zone in the kitchen this big ole can sitting in the corner of the room called my name.  "Oliver, Oliver, come over here.  Come visit me Oliver.  Come see what I have to offer."  Since my stomach is forever growling I decided to check this can out.  The promise of food scraps was overwhelming to me.  So I tipped the can only to have a bunch of white liquid gush out at me.  At first, I thought, hmmm, can I eat this stuff?  So I licked some.  Yuck!!   I decided this wasn't for me and proceeded to take my morning nap.  Chui, my older Shih Tzu brother, told me he thought I might be in BIG trouble when mommy came home.  Boy was he ever correct!!  Mommy could tell it was me that did the can tipping.  She said my little black nose was all white and I had paint all over my left cheek.  Why didn't Chui tell me this??  I could have wiped it off onto the carpet or the couch. :o)

So now we wait for the big glob of paint to dry and then will just peel it up off the floor.

AND for the record, Oliver is very well fed!!

What I've been up to...

Because of this...

happening in my kitchen, my dining room now looks like this...

and my family room fireplace area looks like this....

Please note that the mantle is "sort of " decorated for fall.  Do I get credit???

Hopefully this little project in the kitchen will be complete by next weekend and I can have the BIG reveal!

I think I should get some credit for fall decorating....

my front door wreath.

This next week is going to be a busy, busy one.  My parents are moving and their big estate sale is Friday and Saturday.  I might not get in much blogging time but I'll be back soon.

Tiny little changes...

One of the selling points of this house, at least for me, was the color of the walls. I love the colors! This meant less work for me and as we all know, sometimes less is more.  More time for other projects, more time for shopping and more shopping!!

Case in point...the master bathroom.  All it needed was a few finishing touches.  For $8.50 I purchased 1/2 yard of fabric from Hobby Lobby.  With this yardage I was able to recover the existing cornice board over the window....

sorry...bad lighting issues.  But trust me, the cornice board is quite lovely. IMHO

I was also able to cover an old German sewing basket.  This one of the first things I purchased as a new bride.  I paid $15.00 for it in 1988 while we were stationed in Germany.

much better picture of the fabric and wall. Almost perfect lighting.

The vignette that I created above the sewing basket.

One of my favorite thrifty finds is the chalk drawing dated 1890.  Original frame and glass.  I paid $16.00 for it at an auction in Virginia.  It reminds me of the marshlands at night.

Moving along, the last project that I was able to squeeze out of that 1/2 yard of fabric was a little wall art for the toliette area!
I took two canvas frames that I found while shopping at Cato Fashions.  I had on my list of errands for the day to stop by Hobby Lobby and purchase canvas but when I saw these and the price I decided it wasn't worth my effort of gas money to drive across town to the HL.  I paid $1.99 each.  Certainly not inventing the wheel here folks as I know this has been done a million times all over blogland.

Now for the after....

Again bad lighting.  The walls are really a lovely khaki color.  But you can still get the idea.

A little metamorphosis for not a lot of money and now I'm calling it a day in the master bath!!

Please visit Susan's blog, Between Naps On The Porch, for other Met Monday changes.

Fondly,
Ann

PS~I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful week!!
