Someday Projects

We all have them.

Some more than others.

I definitely fall into the "some more than others" category!

Maybe one day I'll take a picture of my garage and attic.

And crawl space.

And bonus room.

I'd like to share with y'all one of my someday projects.

Since this is a fine rainy Monday morning in Georgia I can assure you that it will not be completed today, thus a someday project!!

Yes, I'd like to sand and paint this old metal furniture and the firepit.
Firepit would stay black.
Metal furniture would go from a lovely shade of rusty black to a deep vibrant red.

Not today....someday!

Happy Monday everyone.

Ann

Merry Christmas to Me!

Discipline, I will freely admit, I just do not have!

This past Christmas season while out shopping for others, I can not tell you how many times I said....
"It's not about me."

Every turn down an isle, every rack of clothing, every on-line site, I saw an item that I would like to own!

I tried so hard to stay focused on the tasks at hand.

Focused on finding gifts that would make others happy!

However, there were a couple of times that I gave in to my desires, discipline out the door, and made a purchase or two for myself.

My reasoning's were solid and sound.

Oh my goodness....I've never seen these before!

No, Ann, it's not about you right now.

Stay focused.

But, but....

What if I wait and someone buys it for their loved one!

OK, sounds good to me. (Kinda sounds like I've got a couple of people living in my head!!)

Anyways, I present to you my Christmas presents to myself....

I paid $20 for the set.
I love them!!

And finally, one more little gift to me from me.
Or maybe it's from one of those folks living in my head!!
Either way, it was a welcome addition to my home.

A cute little cherry-topped double jelly holder. I think.
At $6.00, it was worth it.
It makes me happy when I look at it.
Well, me and all those folks in my head!!

I'm linking this post of to Sue's wonderful blog, It's a Very Cherry World, for Rednesday.
Please take a minute to view many other lovely reds.

Ann

A Southern Hot Spot

Can you guess what I'm talking about??

Growing up, when I would visit my grandparents my grandma and I would always, always make a trip
to this store.

The heart of many small southern towns.  Well, that and the First Baptist Church!

Can you see the hand painted signs in the windows...THE PIG WAY

I just love it!!

Hit 2 Talbots yesterday...very productive day for my wardrobe and a lucrative one for Talbots!!

On to other things.

I purchased this old peach basket at a thrift store for .25 cents.
For those of you who don't know, I live in Georgialina (Georgia/South Carolina border, the Savannah River is all that separates the two states), my town is Augusta and across the river North Augusta.
Anyways, peaches are BIG business here in this part of the south.
I love the color of this basket and have showcased it here on TTT back in the early fall.
But today it has taken on another duty.

Holder of my vintage aprons!

I'm just lovin' the color with my aprons and it sits so proudly in hubbys grandparents corner cabinet, that I painted black.

Hope your week is a great one!

Ann

Blog Update

This morning I sat down at my laptop to update my blog.

You know new pictures, new words that sort of thing.

But first I needed to follow my morning computer routine.

Check email

Visit other blogs

Check The Tattered Tassel

After checking my email this morning my routine was gone with the wind.

Checking other blogs will have to wait until this evening, sorry.  Really I am.

But I must share with everyone the email that changed my morning routine.....

Talbot's is having a sale!!!!

Take an additional 50% the already reduced price!!!!!!

Because of this all my Saturday morning plans have changed.

I gotta get ready and run up to Talbot's!!

Yes, I could shop online but I am a sensual kinda gal...

I like the smells of the store

I like the feel of the fabric(thanks cotton) but that also applies to silk, wool, leather and rayon!!

So, in closing, I gotta go, gotta go THIS morning!!

Fondly,
A Desperate Talbot's groupie.  :o)

Out With the Old....

As much as I love Christmas and love decorating for the most wonderful of Holidays
I had enough of my little gingerbread village....

So out with the old and in with the new....

Thanks to my friend and thrifting extradinoire, Lindy, for the set of 8 vintage drinking glasses.
Love them so much!

The white dishes are Snowhite Regency by Johnson Bros. I found a complete service for 12 along with
6 serving pieces and the creamer and sugar(no teapot though) at the Goodwill in Tucson while thrifting with
Lindy for $49.99!  What a great deal!!

The Bordallo Pinheiro Pineapple plates were purchased last year at Tuesday Morning for .99 each.  They were marked down to $1.99 each and then take an additional 50% off of the yellow sticker price.  I went
to 4 different Tuesday Mornings in and around the Tucson area trying to get a set of 8...which I did!!

Purchased the wooden ice cream churn this fall at a yard sale for $5.00.
The rooster was my grandmothers and was the starting bird to my vintage rooster/chicken collection.

Old wooden rolling pin that my girlfriend, Lucille, picked up at a flea market in Germany.
Thanks, Lucille!!

My grandmothers wall pocket of daffodils.
Every spring her backyard would be covered in them.

Little spice jar from my grandmother.
Wonderful juice reamer sent to me by Sweet Bee @ Sweet Bee Cottage.
A fellow blogger with a great big heart and an awesome blog!

Also, the McCoy planters that you see scattered around were one of my very first thrifty purchases.
The year was 1995 and we were stationed in Leavenworth, KS.
I went a yard sale that was actually in an elderly couples barn.  I picked up a big box full of planters.
The gentleman told me they were .25 each!  At the time I was not familiar with McCoy and Hull but
thought the colors were pretty and like the idea of the planter and tray being connected so I purchased the
entire box.  It contained 20 planters!!!!!

Christmas present from Hubby.  They are vintage candleholders.  Love them!!

Purchased the round serving tray for .49 the week before Christmas from the Goodwill.
I like the addition of wood tones to this January cabinet vignette.
Also, the green depression glass bowl with the wicker/bamboo??  handle was a steal for
$1.00 from a yard sale a few years ago.

  A very prized piece!

We had dear old(old in the length of time we have known them not in age!) Army friends visit us for New Years Eve.
For our hospitality they sent us this wonderful bouquet of flowers.
I had already started decorating the cabinet when the flowers arrived.
The colors fit in beautifully with the color scheme that I was working on...thank you Frank and LMN!
They are perfect AND we enjoyed ringing in the New Year with y'all!

And just because I have received so many comments in the past over my bucket o' rolling pins
I thought I'd post the picture again....

Not a difficult collection to acquire...just a little time consuming, as I look for the cheap, cheap
rolling pins or ones that are gifted to me.

I will always love Christmas and all it represents but I do enjoy the calmness that seems to come with January.
When I look at the cabinet in the kitchen eating area I see calm and serene.
I am enjoying it!!

As always, please feel free to click on any picture to enlarge.

Because this vignette is made up of so many thrifty finds I'm going to link it up to Linda's blog,
Coastal Charm, for her Nifty Thrifty Tuesday blog party.  Just a click away to see other thrifty nifty finds and ideas!
Happy, Happy Day!

Ann

Hunting Island

Last weekend while in Beaufort we also visited Hunting Island.

Hunting Island is a short 5 minute car ride from our "little piece of paradise."

Hunting Island is home to a pretty cool lighthouse.

Of course no trip to an island would be complete without walking on the beach.

Let's go!!

The walk is a short one along a boardwalk.

Not the season for the Sea Turtles but we did find this....

Horseshoe Crab who had gone on to meet its Maker.

We had such a wonderful time visiting some of the Sea Islands of South Carolina.
We are very fortunate that they are only a short 2 1/2 hour drive away....wish they were even closer!

What I've been up to...

So it's been a week or two since I've posted.

What have I been up to?

First, we did this...

(click on any picture to enlarge)

Check Chui out in this picture!

Then we headed for Kentucky to visit family.  We drove early on Christmas morning and drove right
through that big snow storm that hit the east coast.  It was quite a ride but once we arrived Christmas dinner
awaited us!

While in Kentucky, my middle dude celebrated his 17th birthday.  Since we were not home I opted to
purchase him a cake.  Isn't this just the cutest idea.  Maybe I'm behind the power curve on this one but
I've not seen cakes made from cupcakes.  Middle dude loved it....

Once we wore out our welcome we headed south back to Georgia.
We didn't even unpack, just added more clothes to our bags and headed to Beaufort and Hilton Head Island,
South Carolina.
Hubby and I have land on St. Helena's Island, SC and needed to check on it.  So we made a mini vacation
out of the trip.

minature golf....

Shh...I'm concentrating!!

Woo Hoo!!  2 hole-in-ones on the same hole!!
Notice who isn't in this picture?
Does a hole-in-two count?  If so, I should have found someone to take "our" photo!

Our land is on St. Helena Island, a Sea Island off the coast of Beaufort, SC.  It is located on what was an old
plantation property.  St. Helena Island is so rich in southern history and is home to Penn Center. Enjoy your
history lesson for the day!!

This is Avenue of The Oaks.  This dirt road leads us to our small piece of paradise and also an amazing
privately owned plantation home that is ocean front. (Not our home, oh how I wish it were, but you can read
more about it by going here.)

Our property has not been cleared of underbrush and pine scrub in 11 years...

I just love the moss draped trees and feel such a sense of calm when here.
Do you see the dirt road?
Do you see my hubby in the left corner of the picture?
Do you see the wooded lot on the other side?
Guess what is behind that lot?
The Atlantic Ocean!!
I love it here!
Maybe one day....

But for today folks, that's all!
Gotta get this gal a movin'.
Busy day calling my name!

Fondly,
Ann

PS~More vacation pictures to come this week...
